If you are planning to travel to Guatemala and you are a digital nomad, we can tell you that it is one of the countries with excellent coverage. They do not have an ultra-fast connectivity, however, the internet services in Guatemala have an average connection, being in a list of countries with more than acceptable speeds.

It is not one of the fastest internets in the world, but it is not the slowest either. You will not have many connection problems. The coverage is wide, and the price is not as expensive as in other countries.

## Internet Service Providers in Guatemala
There are many internet service providers in Guatemala, and they do their best to reach every corner of the country. If you travel to areas farther away from the big cities you have to hire some of these companies to have access to data.

Here it matters a lot the telephone operators and the plans they offer because the price you have to pay and the Internet speeds will depend on that.

In theory the whole country is connected to satellite Internet, but not everyone has access to it. What we recommend is that as soon as you touch Guatemalan soil, you go to a service center of one of these telephone companies, buy a chip and sign up for a plan. Among the companies to choose from are Tecoloco, COMNET, Cabelnet, Tigo and Claro.

## Which is the best internet service company in Guatemala?
Currently, according to an internal barometer made at the end of last year, we have Claro with a download speed of 7.92 megabytes and Tigo with 10.17 megabytes.

Take a closer look at the plans:

## Tigo
Plans of 150 megabytes and 100 megabytes cost 1199 quetzal ($155) and 809 quetzal ($104) respectively.

## Claro
Costs vary depending on the number of megas, ranging from 209 quetzal to 1,199 quetzal. The last one has a faster internet speed than the rest of the plans.

These prices are for monthly payments, however if you exceed the amount of megabytes, and you exceed the service charge is made instantly or prepaid depending on the balance you have. It is all a matter of contacting the operators and confirming the price to be paid.

These two companies are the most recommended, they have access even in areas such as parks and resorts. So it is the one that suits you best if you want to be communicated throughout the trip.

## Free Wifi?

Internet services in Guatemala are not always paid. If you stay in hotels between 4 and 5 stars you have access to free Wifi as part of the hotel services.

You can also find free internet in some shopping malls, restaurants, as many of these establishments have free wifi for you to use.

Don't forget that this is a very active city and connectivity is extremely important for day-to-day activities.
